When I was young, I used to quit a lot.
Especially sports.
I would stop showing up.
I don’t know exactly why, but I lacked confidence. I didn’t believe in my ability to compete, and once I reached this conclusion, I would stop showing up.
I would complain to my parents and find a way out. Because in my head, I wasn’t good enough. And I would never be good enough. So, I might as well quit.
That was me.
Once I graduated from college, I realized quitting was no longer an option. I needed to keep showing up. Then, something magical happened.
I got better.
And I allowed my brain to make the connection.
Show Up = Get Better
Get Better = More Confidence
More Confidence = More Opportunity
More Opportunity = Whatever You Can Imagine
But it all started with showing up.
Here’s how I do it…
I drop all of my expectations. I can’t expect to be great from day 1, but I can show up and try to learn something.
That’s all I can do.
You can too!
Ironically, I will play in a mid-amateur golf tournament this weekend.
I snuck in at #71 out of 72 players.
No expectations. I'm just gonna show up and swing the club!
With Love,
The Mule
