You Can Do More
Not only for yourself.
But for the cannabis industry as well.
That’s why building a personal brand is so important.
When I first started creating cannabis content on LinkedIn, I had no idea what I was doing. The only prior experience I had was posting images on Instagram.
But that wasn’t going to stop me from getting started.
Because I had something I wanted to say.
I just needed the right channel…
Why LinkedIn?
I’ve always been a “business” first kind of individual.
But most social platforms focus on entertainment, not education.
And for me, this wasn’t about entertainment, this was all about education.
On top of that, LinkedIn has always been a great platform for B2B.
And appeared to be quite a cannabis-friendly platform.
Combine all 3 (three) of those things together.
And now I had the perfect channel…
How I Got Started…
I still remember my first LinkedIn post.
I was listening to Peter Tosh’s “Legalize It” on Spotify.
As I listened, I realized that this battle was much bigger than myself. If I wanted to continue to see advancement in the cannabis industry, I needed to be more involved with the solution.
One solution…create cannabis content regularly on LinkedIn.
The problem…I didn’t know how to get started.
And I know many of you feel the same.
So this is what you’re going to do.
Leverage other content.
For example…
My first post was about Peter Tosh’s song.
I took some lyrics from the song and quoted them in the post. Then I expanded on the topic in my own words to add a bit of a personal touch. Lastly, I asked a question at the end to try to drive conversation. That was it…
And I continued to use this strategy for the first month or so.
Find a piece of cannabis content on the internet
News, Podcast, Research, etc.
Provide an overview or brief summary of it
The message, Key takeaway, etc.
Expand on one topic from the content
Observation, Opinion, etc.
Was I putting out the best content possible? No.
Did it help me start creating content? Yes.
And it can do the same for you…
What Happened Next?
After a month of publishing content, I slowly built up more confidence.
And I no longer felt the need to leverage other content anymore.
I now had a strong foundation I could build on.
And that’s when things took off…
In my first year of creating content on LinkedIn I had over 1,000,000 views. People all around the globe were reading my posts and engaging with my content regularly.
Ironically, the same thing is still happening today.
And it might even be why you’re reading this.
Why?
I posted about it yesterday on LinkedIn.
What About You?
That’s the question I want you to ask yourself today.
Are you doing enough?
Could you be doing more?
You see, building a personal brand isn’t only about you and your brand.
When you start creating content regularly on a platform like LinkedIn you can reach millions of people from behind a screen. And yeah, if done right, it will do amazing things for you and your business.
But when we’re talking about posting cannabis content, it’s not only helping you and your business, it’s helping the industry as a whole!
By…
Breaking down the stigma that cannabis still has today
Educating non-consumers on the benefits
Building more awareness
But here’s the best part…
All 3 (three) of the things above will also help grow your business.
As I said, creating cannabis content is part of the solution.
And if you’re not doing it already, you need to be.
Not only for yourself, but for the industry.
Remember, we’re all in this together…
Are you doing your part?
With Love,
Steven Arthur George
Ps. You don’t have to build a personal brand all by yourself. I’ve worked with a few coaches over the past three years, and they’ve all helped me get the most out of my efforts. Feel free to reach out if you need help getting started…
